POSTAL HISTORY: 1889 (6 Jan) well-travelled envelope to New Zealand addressed from England bearing 1880-81 1d lilac tied by "MAIDSTONE/N/JA 6/89/STATION-OFFICE" sideways duplex, boxed "UNCLAIMED" in purple and "NOT KNOWN BY/LETTER CARRIERs/CHRISTCHURCH” in violet handstamps, via Yalding (6.1), Plymouth (8.1) and arriving in Wellington (4.3) (twice, one poor), "N.Z./RPO-C/6 MR 89/13", then going backwards and forwards between Timaru (twice), Waimate, Studholme, Christchurch (four, two in red and one a squared circle in black) and ending at the "N.Z/D.L. OFFICE/13 JY 89" in violet. A most unusual envelope, fine
