1948 airmail envelope to the Gilbert and Ellice Islands with mixed franking of Leewards 1d and 1/-, plus pair and single of the Montserrat 3d, one with R2/2 'tower' flaw, tied by Plymouth CDSs of 25 SP.  One shortish perf at top, the envelope with some creasing and wear, opened at top and at right.  The first time we have seen this variety on cover, and with an exceptional destination; the variety previously having been considered to be present on the final (1951) printing only.  SG 106ac (£400 off cover)
