1884-85 Naval Officers Mail. Very fine naval bag cover sent by Rear-Admiral John K.E. Baird to his wife in Ringwood Hants. The 4d per ½oz rate from the west coast of the Americas prepaid by a 4d dull green (SG 192) cancelled in England in transit by a Guildford "325" numeral. 
Rear-Admiral Baird was Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet at this time, his flag initially on HMS Swiftsure then HMS Triumph. Lovely clean cover, very scarce.
