Description
Russia – Soviet: A catch‑up Order of the Red Star to Red Army to Soldier G.N. Kondratenko, 305th Guards Rifle Regiment, 1st Guards Motorised Division for wounds received in the defensive actions around Kiev in the late summer of 1941. Comprising Order of the Red Star, type 6, reverse numbered, 2604953. A couple of small chips to the enamel, good, very fine (1).
Grigory Nikitovich Kondratenko was born in Blagovsky Selsovet in the village of Moshok, Chaussky district, Mogilev Oblast in 1908. An illiterate Belorussian, he served in the Red Army from June 1941 onwards as a Rifleman, 305th Rifle Regiment, 1st Guards ‘Moscow’ Motorized Division.
This Order of the Red Star would be his sole award for bravery during the war, awarded to him by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 6th August 1946 as a result of wounds received during the defensive fighting in the Ukraine and around Kiev.
The recommendation for the award was as follows:
‘Guards Red Army Soldier Kondratenko, as a Rifleman of the 305th Guards Rifle Regiment, 1st Guards Motorized Division (does not remember the army number), South-Western Front, took active part in battles with the German invaders from 07.08.1941 to 04.10.1941 and in battle outside the village of Aleksandrovka, Kiev Oblast, received a severe wound in the right shoulder joint. As a result of the wound, his right hand is immobile; it cannot be raised, it cannot be used.
At the present time he is not working due to his disability.
For active participation on the Front of the Patriotic War and receiving a serious wound, he is deserving of the awarding of the Order of the Red Star.’
Kondratenko was also in receipt of the Medal for the Victory over Germany.
After the war, Kondratenko was a Kolkhoz worker at the ‘Novoi Svet’, Blagovsky Selsovet, Chaussky District, Mogilev Oblast whilst living in the village of Moshok.
