A Great War, World War Two Canadian Territorial Officers Long Service Group of 5 awarded to Major Robert Beggs Strange who served with the Corps of Guides, Canadian Militia, Canadian Field Artillery, Canadian Expeditionary Force, Calgary Regiment, Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps. In a career that spanned some 40 yeas service. Comprising, 1914-1920 British War Medal, Rhodium plated Canadian issue, (2045075 Sjt. R. B. Strange. C.F.A.), 1939-45 Canadian Volunteer Service Medal 1939-45, unnamed as issued, 1939-45 War Medal, Canadian Silver issue, unnamed as issued, Efficiency Decoration, GVRI, Canada suspension bar, officially named (Major R.B. Strange), Canadian Forces Decoration, GVIR issue with Canada suspension, officially named (Maj. R.B. Strange), very lightly toned very fine.
Robert Beggs Strange was born on the 27th of March 1894 in Brookfield, County Antrim Ireland, he enlisted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Canadian Field Artillery, stating that he had previously served in the Corps of Guides, Canadian Militia, on the 19th January 1917 and was posted to No. 4 Section Divisional Ammunition Column, he proceeded overseas to England on the 12th July 1918 and was promoted to Pay Sergeant of the Canadian Clearing Services Command, Transports. He returned to Canada, medically unfit and was discharged from the Army on the 21st December 1918, giving his home address as 1315 -17th Avenue West, Calgary, Alberta. His papers confirm the award of the British War Medal only.
On the 3rd August 1922 he enlisted into the Calgary Regiment (50th Battalion CEF). When World War Two broke out he enlisted in the Canadian Active Service Force (CASF) on the 7th September 1939 and served in Canada with the Calgary Regiment Royal Canadian Army Pay Corp, until his final discharge on the 27th March 1957 in the rank of Major having been awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-45 War Medal, Efficiency Decoration with 2 clasps and the Canadian Decoration.
He then returned to the civilian world, where he continued his professional life as an International Accountant. He died on the 16th of August 1968.
