Footnote
Although this bisect is unlisted, it is obviously related to the bisected British Bechuanaland 4d (SG 35a). This front has the same date, the same endorsement and is in the same hand as the cover from Sir John Inglefield-Watson's collection (Spink 2007, Lot 370, realised £1100 plus premium). There has always been a hint of contrivance about these bisects, and it seems that at least one stamp with the Protectorate overprint was included with the British Bechuanaland stamps.
