1870 ½d hand-drawn essay. Very fine composite essay by Perkins Bacon lettered EA, using an engraved head similar to that used on Canadian stamps, with a hand-drawn frame. On white wove paper (46 x 46mm), numbered "5" and endorsed at base "Messrs Perkins & Co." Extremely rare, nineteen designs were originally produced, six of which are in the Royal Philatelic Collection, of the remainder only three or four appear to have survived. A magnificent exhibition piece. SG DP59, £27,500.
