1841 1d Red-brown Pl.5 (State 3). Very fine used four margin example lettered DB (double letter D), neatly tied to a clean miniature envelope by a black Southampton MC with a 'Four Posts/Penny Post' handstamp alongside. Addressed to London, with Southampton and London datestamps on reverse for JY.15+16.1841 respectively. A superb cover showing the extreme thinning of the check letters (particularly the 'B' which has almost disappeared) and upper corner stars characteristic of state 3 after the 1st and 2nd repairs.
