1862 Transatlantic mail. Very fine double rate cover prepaid by a vertical pair of 1s Deep Green (Pl.1=2) lettered SF-TF. Neatly tied to a clean unfolded blue envelope by crisp Bath '53' duplexes for FE.09.1864 with a red US arrival cds alongside for FE.26.1864, a red handstruck "48" and a red manuscript "42" indicating the British share of the postage for overseas carriage. Addressed to Philadelphia and backstamped in London for FE.10.1864. Superb deep colour, a very fine quality cover.
