1885 (7 AU) registered cover from Gibraltar to Germany, correctly franked at 4½d (2½d postage + 2d registration) by 1881 GB 1d lilac (16 dots) x2 and 1884 GB 2½d lilac, cancelled in transit by individual strikes of Spanish obliterator with boxed "R / ESPAGNE" registration mark alongside. Gibraltar registered oval at lower left, overlapping sender's green ds. Bacsktamped at Cadiz (9 AGO), Madrid (10 AGO) and Berlin (13.8). Some cover faults (portion of envelope cut out from reverse, 2½d with added corner) but highly unusual. BPA cert (1978).
