This medal was the last of Mudie's series of National Medals commemorating the British victories over Napoléon. The sovereignty of the Ionian Islands was given to Britain in the Treaty of Paris in November 1815 and the "Maitland constitution" was ratified on 26 August 1817 named after Thomas Maitland, a British officer who served as Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands.
