Description
1946 Peace collection in two Philatelic albums, the finest collection of this issue we have seen, with an immensely detailed account of re-entries and flaws on the recess-printed values, illustrated with blown-up photographs throughout. Includes double perf blocks of ½d, 1½d and 4d; blurred centres on 3d and 5d singles and 5d imprint block; vignette offset on reverse of 8d (imperfect); and Plate Proofs of the 1d and 2d blocks of four and twenty-four (the large blocks with wrinkles). The real strength of the collection is in James Berry drawings. Early drawings (6 x 9½", on tracing-type paper 9¾ x 10½", some mounted on card) of his 1½d rejected triangular Churchill design (this with very slight foxing ), and the replacement St Pauls design; 3d (issued as 2d); 5d (issued as 3d); 8d (issued as 6d); 2/- Britannia unissued; 2/- (issued as 9d), and 3/- ‘Peace on Earth’ unissued. All are signed. There is also a 1/- photographic essay x 6 stamp size as required by the Post Office, and six double-stamp-sized drawings of the ½d, 3d, 4d, 6d, 8d and 9d. Wonderful quality and a superb collection for exhibit. SG 667-676
