Description
Iran,Qajar, Nasir al-Din Shah (1848-1896), gold Pattern Half Toman, AH 1281 / 1864 AD, Tehran, lion & Sun type, 2.00g (Fr. unlisted; KM unlisted; for parallel see Kian Collection, SINCONA Auction 85, 23rd October 2023, lot 1066). In NGC holder graded AU 55 (8588621-003).
Extremely rare type and only the one of the two graded examples known. A series of rare patterns in gold, silver and bronze were issued in AH 1281, yet the official issue of milled coins and medals during the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah started only in AH 1293. Only one comparable pattern Half Toman of this year has come to the market in recent years as part of the famous Kian Collection. This was also the only other example known that was finer than this one, making this piece the second finest known both in NGC and PCGS census. This is a highly desirable early pattern for all advanced collectors of the Qajar series.
