An extremely rare Mughal Zodiac Rupee – Gemini
The Mughal Emperor Jahangir struck a stunning series of figural Rupees and Mohurs which became some of the greatest rarities of Mughal numismatics, extremely popular with collectors. Along with the extremely rare portrait pieces, he created a series of Zodiac types, each one to be struck in the corresponding month of the year. Gold Mohurs exist for all twelve Zodiac signs and months of the year, while silver Rupees were only struck for the first five Zodiac signs / months. In numismatic history of Jahangir’s coins, this rare silver Gemini Zodiac Rupee was struck at Ahmedabad for the month of Khurdad.
