This is followed by an exceptional group of approximately 150 19th-century copper tokens from the celebrated Francis Gissing Collection. Many of these pieces were originally acquired through Baldwin’s some 40 to 60 years ago and are largely ex-Cokayne, presented here in superb condition throughout.  Also featured is a fascinating collection of around 200 English pub checks, dating from the 1850s to the 1890s, offering a unique glimpse into social history.  In addition, the sale will include approximately 70 lots of miscellaneous 18th-century tokens from various other vendors, to be found throughout the auction.

William Buck Jr. was the landlord of the Anchor public house in Morston and owner of the Cruizer (a brig registered in Yarmouth in 1818). The token was probably issued at the commemoration of the launch of the Cruizer. These tokens were unknown until the last few years
