This is followed by an exceptional group of approximately 150 19th-century copper tokens from the celebrated Francis Gissing Collection. Many of these pieces were originally acquired through Baldwin’s some 40 to 60 years ago and are largely ex-Cokayne, presented here in superb condition throughout.  Also featured is a fascinating collection of around 200 English pub checks, dating from the 1850s to the 1890s, offering a unique glimpse into social history.  In addition, the sale will include approximately 70 lots of miscellaneous 18th-century tokens from various other vendors, to be found throughout the auction.

(W 720v/D 80v). Uncirculated with full mint lustre - small spot on obv. Struck on an 18th. c. Anglesey penny with an expanded collar giving rise to a very strange edge and over-size coin. Unique?
