This is followed by an exceptional group of approximately 150 19th-century copper tokens from the celebrated Francis Gissing Collection. Many of these pieces were originally acquired through Baldwin’s some 40 to 60 years ago and are largely ex-Cokayne, presented here in superb condition throughout.  Also featured is a fascinating collection of around 200 English pub checks, dating from the 1850s to the 1890s, offering a unique glimpse into social history.  In addition, the sale will include approximately 70 lots of miscellaneous 18th-century tokens from various other vendors, to be found throughout the auction.

(DH 1) . An electrotype made in 1984 for Patrick Deane using the Longman/Jan/Noble/Bobbe original, truncation of bust stamped ‘COPY’ Good Extremely Fine.
Only some five specimens of the original are known to exist, as the die broke after only a few strikes. This electrotype represents almost the only possibility of owning the largest token of this eighteenth century series.
