The Naval General Service Medal awarded to Clerk Stephen Fisher H.M.S. Daphne during the Syria Operations who rose to be Paymaster-in-Chief in 1870 comprising Naval General Service Medal, one clasp, Syria, (Stephen Fisher, Clerk, R.N.), extremely fine (1)
Stephen Fisher, was born in St Margarets Kent on the 7th of March 1818 he passed the Royal Navy Clerks exam on the 5th of December 1838 joining H.M.S. Daphne the same day. He served aboard Daphne until the 31st of March 1841 receiving the clasp “Syria” N.B. Stephen Fisher is a unique name on the NGS Roll, he subsequently served aboard the Yacht Royal Sovereign, was Acting Paymaster the Childers, Duke of Wellington in the Baltic and was awarded the Baltic Medal, Eagle and Russell, Meeanee. Retired after 22 years 288 days on the 6th of March 1870 and appointed Paymaster-in-Chief 15th of June 1870.
