William Baker Easterby, Born in Pickering, Died 21st March at a Nursing Home in Scarborough, of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, formerly lived Arusha, Tanganyika. Sold with Copy Medal Index Card and medal Roll Pension Card and death notice
Private Murphy 5th (Service) Battalion (Pioneers) Formed at the Royal Barracks in Dublin in August 1914 as part of K1 and came under orders of 29th Brigade, 10th (Irish) Division.
Moved to Fermoy and by early 1915 was at Longford.
May 1915: moved to Basingstoke with the rest of the division.
About June 1915, converted to Pioneer Battalion of the same division.
7 July 1915: embarked at Liverpool and sailed to Gallipoli via Mudros. Landed Suvla Bay 7 August 1915.
30 September 1915 : moved via Mudros to Salonika.
The 10th (Irish) Division was not part of the regular, pre-War army, but was made up of new recruits after a call for men made by Lord Kitchener, Secretary of State for War. It recruited men from across Ireland (and beyond) and was trained at the Curragh during the autumn and winter of 1914. It was then moved to England prior to departure for Gallipoli to take part in the August offensive. The 10th (Irish) Division that went to Gallipoli comprised the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, the 5th Battalion of the Connaught Rangers, the 6th Battalion of the Leinster Regiment, the 6th and 7th Battalions of the Royal Munster Fusiliers, the 6th and 7th Battalions of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, the 5th and 6th Battalions of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, the 5th and 6th Battalions of the Royal Irish Fusiliers and the 5th Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. The 10th (Irish) Division would stay at Gallipoli for less than two months but would see some intense fighting at the Suvla Bay section. The division spent 1916 and 1917 in Salonika.
William Walter Brown was born in Invercargill New Zealand on the 20th of May 1872 he gave his calling as a Presbyterian Minister he joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in 1917. He was accidentally Killed on the 22nd of August 1920.
Sold with One page of N.Z.E.F. Service Papers, two copy photographs and a copy photograph of his Headstone. The information “Hospital Ship Maheno” came from the original packet the medal was kept in.
Pte Atkinson 1/5th (Weald of Kent) Battalion East Kent Regiment
August 1914 : in Ashford. Part of Kent Brigade, Home Counties Division. 29 October 1914 : to India. The Division was broken up on arrival in Bombay. Joined Jubbulpore Brigade in 5th (Mhow) Division. November 1915 to 35th Brigade in 7th (Meerut) Division in Mesopotamia. Brigade moved to 14th (Indian) Division in May 1916.

Conrad Murdoch Silas was born in Georgetown, Demerara, British Guiana, contracted Malaria whilst serving in Salonika.
