Egypt Medal 1882-89, undated reverse, two clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Suakin 1885, awarded to Boy Trumpeter later Gunner William Varley 7/1 Irish Division Royal Artillery, (29060. Gun. W. Varley. 7/1 Irish. Div: R.A.) edge knock 5 o’clock to reverse otherwise very fine (1)
William Varley joined the Royal Artillery in Malta on the 3rd of May 1878 stating that he had been born Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope and that he was 14 Years old and four feet 8 inches tall. He attested as a Boy Trumpeter He served in Egypt from the 8th of September 1884 to the 15th of June 1885 being awarded the Egypt Medal He was transferred to the Army Reserve on the 5th of March 1890.
