The South Africa Medal awarded to Private Frederick Sherwood, 2nd Battalion 24th Foot comprising South Africa Medal 1877-79, one clasp, 1877-8-9, (1508. Pte F. Sherwood. 2.24th Foot.) extremely fine (1)
Frederick Sherwood was born in Clifton, Bristol, Somerset c.1859. a 19 year old Groom by trade. He attested for the Army on the 24th of January 1878 joining the 25th Brigade and transferring to the 2nd Battalion 24th Foot on the 26th of January 1878. He served in South Africa from the 1st of February 1878 to the 18th of January 1880, serving Subsequently in the Mediterranean and India until, returning Home on the 2th of February 1884, he was Discharged from the Army on the 17th of January 1890, serving in the Reserve from the 28th Of January 1890 to the 27rth of January 1894.
