Samu Wertheimer was born in Gajary, zupa, Bratislava in 1893, he was Mustered for the Army in October 1914 reporting for Militaru Service at Pozsony Hungary, he served as a Artillery Gunner from 28th of October 1914 until the 31st of March 1917 Being promoted Lieutenant on the 1st of April 1917.Whilst serving as a Gunner with Feldkanonen Regiment 28 he was wounded by a Grenade Splinter on the 12th of December 1915.His Army career finished on the 15th of November 1918.

He achieved all three sports badges, and it is noteworthy that before him only three Austrian athletes had attained this triple distinction.
