Description
Birmingham, P Kempson’s Series of Birmingham Churches, Halfpenny undated, View of Ashted Chapel, rev. Arms of Birmingham in circular legend, edge plain, 28.5mm/11.35gm. (DH 147). Another but obv. St. Bartholomew’s Chapel, 29mm/11.43gm. (DH 150). Another the same but rev, has a period in legend, 29mm/13.04gm. (DH 151). Another but obv. St. John’s Chapel Derit End, 29mm/12.93gm. (DH 153). Another but obv. St. Martin’s Church, 12.2gm. (DH 154). Another the same but in brass, 29mm/12gm. (DH 154). Another but obv. St. Mary’s Chapel, 29mm/11.06gm. (DH 156), with the exception of the brass piece which is yellow toned Extremely Fine and matt ‑ the rest are all good Extremely Fine with very reflective surfaces – first almost full mint lustre, others with traces of lustre, DH 154 iridescently toned. Off‑metal piece extremely rare ‘RRR’ [7]
Apart from DH 154 (ex Baldwins basement Feb 2018) and DH 156, all ex F S Cokayne Col., his tickets – DH 150b bought 4 Nov
1895 for 45/6 with 28 other pieces (perhaps a lot of the next few lots); DH 154 brass bought 26 Oct 1905 for 6/. Acquired AHB c.
