Description
Birmingham, Birmingham Copper and Mining Co. Contemporary Imitation Halfpenny 1792, same design just slightly cruder with large 9 in date – unpublished variety with edge PAYABLE AT LIVERPOOL OR BRISTOL +, 28mm/8.27gm. (DH -). Another not quite as crude but with unpublished edge - PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE OF THOS WORSWICK & SONS, 29mm/12.6gm. (DH 110e). Another similar but dated 1793, edge BIRMINGHAM LIVERPOOL OR LONDON, 28.5mm/8.93gm. (DH 114). Another the same but edge PAYABLE AT LEEK STAFFORDSHIRE, 28mm/ 9.74gm. (DH 114b). Another but dated 1795, edge PAYABLE IN HULL AND LONDON .x.x., 29mm/9.15gm. (DH 118a), DH 114 and 114b good Extremely Fine and toned with a trace of lustre, rest good Very Fine and toned, first two unpublished and last with an extremely rare edge ‘RRR’[5].
First ex Spink c 2008, their ticket – very possibly ex F S Cokayne but no ticket of his; Rest ex F S Cokayne Col., his tickets – DH 110e bought 30 Dec 1905 from J Atkins for 2/6; DH 114 bought 30 Dec 1905 from J Atkins for 2/6; DH 114b bought 30 Oct 1904 for 1/6. DH 118a bought 30 Dec 1905 from J Atkins for 7/6. These cquired AHB c. 1946.
