Description
Blything, Sir John Rous (Captain of the Suffolk Yeomanry First Troop) Halfpenny 1794, Mounted dragoon, rev. badge of the Yeomanry, edge GOD SAVE THE KING AND CONSTITUTION .xx., 30.5mm/11.14gm. (DH 18), Another similar, sword now pointing to L rather than O, 28.5mm/12.23gm. (DH 19), both good Extremely fine with substantial amounts of mint lustre, first with die crack on obv. very rare ‘RR’. [2] £120-180 First ex Spink (their ticket) c. 2008, very likely ex F S Cokayne. Second ex ‘an old Surrey Col.’ via Mark Rasmussen Sep. 2016. DH 18 is from a more deeply engraved die than the others in this series. However, the die crack that can be seen on the obv. soon resulted in the die completely failing – Waters reports that only 12 examples were struck before the die broke up making this a very rare piece indeed.
