A Royal Navy, Great War, Battle of Jutland, Long Service, Messina Earthquake, Group 0f 5 awarded to Mechanician William Ernest Bolt Royal Navy comprising, 1914-15 Star (302818, W.E. Bolt. Mech., R.N.), 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (302818 W.E. Bolt. Mech. R.N.), Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, GVR, (302818 W.E. Bolt, Mechn. H.M.S. Amphitrite.), Messina Earthquake Medal 1908, unnamed as issued. Service number faintly impressed on Victory Medal and marks to obverse, otherwise all very good. (5)
William Ernest Bolt was born on the 12th of April 1883 in Weymouth, Dorset, he joined the Royal Navy on the 5th of January 1903 stating that he was a Labourer. He served aboard H.M.S. Exeter at Messina, and H.M.S. Canada, a purloined Chilean battleship repurposed at the Battle of Jutland; Canada fired 42 main gun rounds and 109 secondary gun rounds and was not hit once and had no casualties, a very lucky ship that day! He was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Amphitrite. He was pensioned to shore on the 12th of June 1922.
