Description
Spain. Order of Merit Gilt & Enamel Cross, 1st Class. Red model. Type VI (1936-1976). Heraldic symbols of Castile and Léon and in the centre the symbol of Granada, red enamel cross with gilt crown above / initials MM for Mérito Militar on a white enamel centre. Made by J. Saz, Madrid. Barac 829. 22.99g, 39.5 x 49mm, 12h.

Wartime ribbon of red with a small white centre line. The medal was instituted on 3 August 1864 but this type & class of medal was awarded during the regime of General Franco (1938-1975), either to the Nationalist forces of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) or to the Spanish Blue Legion that served with the Axis forces on the Russian front in WW2., more likely the latter.
