Description
A Pipe Presentation Case With Two Pipes and Lighter Made from a General Service Button (Presented to CQMS J E Jilks 14th Reserve Battalion CEF Shorncliffe October 1916) Hallmarks for Chester 1914, as found (Lot)
Born Portsmouth, Hants, England 1889.
Enlisted 23rd Sep 1914, Valcartier, at janitor
He ends up in Moore Barracks Hospital, Shorncliffe, in Oct 1916 with TB (so a pipe may not have been the best present for him.) No history of TB before enlistment.
Sent to a sanitorium in Wokingham a month later, from which he is discharged permanently unfit April 1917.
Died almost exactly two years later, April 15th 1919, buried Ann's Hill Cemetery, Gosport with his family, photo of headstone attached.
