Royal Fleet Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR awarded to Stoker 1st Class Charles Babbage who during the Great War had served with the Royal Fleet Reserve from the 7th of June 1914 attached Collingwood Battalion RND and was captured at Antwerp in 1914. (SS.108812 CH.B.10717 C. Babbage. Sto.1R.F.R.).
Charles Babbage was born on the 20th of January 1891 in Poplar, Londona Call Boy by trade. He joined the Royal Navy on the 5th of June 1909 being Discharged to Shore on the 6th of June 1914. He joined the Royal Fleet Reserve on the 7th of June 1914 and was taken Prisoner of War on the 9th of October 1914 at Antwerp the German Papers say Royal Naval Division, he was R.F.R attached Collingwood Battalion. His papers also state that he is entitled to the 1914 Star. He seems to have been held west of Berlin, at Berger-Damm until 1st Dec 1916, when he was moved to Dyrotz, only about 12 miles south-east of the previous camp. He was repatriated in December 1918 and appears on the Royal Navy casualty List on the 17th of January 1919.

Charles Albert Smith was born on the 20th of July 1899 in Brighton and was a lift attendant by trade when he joined the Royal Navy on the 5th of August 1919. Her served until the 4th of August 1924 when he was discharged to shore. He joined the Royal Fleet reserve on the 5th of August 1924 He was awarded the RFR LS&GC On the 24th of April 1933. He was posted to H.M.S. Vernon on the 25th of August 1939 and was released on the 19th of July 1945.
