The Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal awarded to Stoker Petty Officer Joseph Ahern H.M.S. Frobisher comprising Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR, (K.21649 J. Ahern. S.P.O. H.M.S. Frobisher) non swivelling suspension lightly toned very fine (1)
Joseph Ahern was born on the 28th September 1893 in Queenstown, Cork a Blacksmith by trade. He joined the Royal Navy on the 11th of January 1914. He served on 23 Ships during his Carere during the Great war he served aboard H.M.S. Cumberland she was sent to West Africa after the beginning of the war in August and supported operations in the Cameroons where she captured 10 German merchantmen at Douala on 27 September. She was assigned to the 5th Cruiser Squadron in January 1915 where she conducted patrols for German raiders and escorted convoys for the rest of the war.
Joseph left the Royal Navy on the 14th of December 1928 for the Great War he was also awarded a 1914-15 Trio. He re-joined the Navy on the 11st of September 1929 and was Pensioned to Shore on the 13th of February 1936. Recalled on the 27th of August 1939 he was released from the Navy on the 18th of June 1945.
