The Great War, Silver War Badge, World War Two Home Defence Special Constable Long Service Group of Five awarded to Ordinary Seman/Special Constable Lewis Edmund Elliott, Royal Navy, H.M.S. Armadale Castle, and Special Constabulary comprising, 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (J.76939 L.E. Elliott. Ord. R.N.), 1939-45 Defence Medal, unnamed as issued, Special Constabulary Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVIR, two clasp, Long Service 1955, Long Service 1965, (Lewis E. Elliott), Silver War Badge No, (RN31363), first three contemporary mounted for wear, all lightly toned very fine (5)
Lewis Edmund Elliott was born on the 28th June 1899 he joined the Royal Navy on the 28th of August 1917 stating that he was a Labourer from Godalming, Surry, he served aboard the Armed Merchant Cruiser H.M.S. Armadale Castle from the 27th of December 1917 to the 14th of January 1919, mostly employed on Atlantic Convoy protection duties. He was Discharged to Shore in early 1919. His papers sate “Burn on Back on Left Side”, perhaps this was the reason for the Silver War Badge.
