Footnote
Largest silver coin issued by Elizabeth and a spectacular piece – exhibiting very well her ruff and intricate dress details. As
a type crowns are rare as they were only issued for two years at the end of her long reign. Elizabeth's reign is known as the
Elizabethan Era - famous above all for the fl ourishing of English drama, led by playwrights such as William Shakespeare and
Charles Marlowe, and for the seafaring prowess of English adventurers such as Sir Francis Drake.
