Description
New Zealand, George VI (1936-1952), silver Proof Crown – Proposed Royal Visit, 1949, (KM 22). In NGC holder graded PF 64 (8538368-006). The second finest known in NGC census. Extremely rare coin, especially in such a high grade.
This stunning 1949 Proof Crown was prepared for the proposed Royal Tour of George VI and it is the only Crown of New Zealand to feature the portrait of George VI. Historically, it was estimated that only three examples were struck as Proofs as noted in Krause, however the most recent information suggests that there are nine. The royal visit was ultimately cancelled due to King’s ill health. This Proof Royal Visit Crown of 1949 remains one of the most elusive and sought-after coins, even for the most advanced collectors of the New Zealand series. We are pleased to present this rarity which is graded as the second finest known by NGC.
