Description
+CNV •T REX, crowned bust left, holding sceptre, Rev. PIDIGA ON PINC, voided short cross, pellet in centre, 1.09g/6h. (BMC XVI; N. 790; S. 1159). Good Very Fine, toned, with a slight bend in the flan. Unique.
Footnote
Widia was previously believed to have been active at the Winchester mint from Cnut’s posthumous Jewel Cross type (c. 1036-1037) to Edward the Confessor’s Pointed Helmet type (c. 1053-1056). This hitherto unique coin shows he began his career earlier than assumed.
