Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s marks the 125th edition of its Ancient, British and World Coin Auction, meticulously curated by in-house specialists. The sale spans Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Celtic, British, World and Islamic sections. &nbsp;Ancient highlights include two Ptolemaic Gold Octodrachms, an exceptional Dold Double decadrachm of Agathokles, a Siculo-Punic tetradrachm, and an extremely rare Carausius denarius recorded on the PAS. Celtic material ranges from a Bronze Age lock-ring to gold staters of Gaul and Britain, culminating in a superb ‘Classic’ Cunobelin stater. Within the British coin section, notable pieces include Anglo-Saxon pennies and hammered gold such as an Edward III Quarter-Noble, Elizabeth I Quarter Angel and pledge penny—and important hammered silver of Edward I, Henry VII, Henry VIII and Edward VI. Milled items include a lovely George II Two Guineas and the third tranche from 'The Frank Waley Collection', featuring a 1663 Charles II Shilling NGC MS63 and Victoria Gothic Crowns to PF65. World coins present a date run of Brazilian 960 Reis of João VI, early Hong Kong issues, rare Medieval Indian gold Gadyanas, the finest known Saladin commemorative Pound, a Genoese Quintuple Doppia AU58, and a Mint State Paul I Rouble and the Islamic section includes fine selections of dinars and rare Artuqid bronzes, capped by a stunning Ottoman Double Zeri Mahbub.

Rhodesia, Republic (1970-1977), bronze Half Cent, 1977, engraver: Tommy Sasseen, 3.00g (KM 9; Schön 47). In NGC holder graded MS 62 BN (8222218-001). Among top five finest known in the NGC census with the brown colour designation.The entire 1977 circulation issue of these Half Cents was melted before they were released into circulation and for a long time it was thought that less than ten examples survive. There are currently 13 pieces graded and recorded by NGC and three by PCGS so it is safe to assume that perhaps 20-30 examples survive still. There has not been of these 1977 Half Cents on the auction market since 2015, according to Coin Archives. This is only the second time in Baldwin’s history we have had the opportunity to sell these excessively rare coins.
