Description
Mexico, Estados Unidos Mexicanos, silver Peso, ‘Caballito’ type, 1913, Mexico City mint, 27.15g (KM 453). Extremely Fine, minor contact marks, lovely tone to the surfaces.
The Caballito Peso was struck from 1910 through 1914 and was born during the beginning of the Mexican Revolution, when social liberals took a stand against the 34-year dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz. The Caballito Peso, which in English translates to ‘the little horse peso’ was designed by Beaux-Arts era French engraver and medallist Charles Pillet.
