George IV (1820‑30), Proof Shilling, 1821, laureate head left, B.P [Benedetto Pistrucci] below neck, legend reads GEORGIUS IIII DG BRITANNIAR REX FD. Rev, first crowned quartered shield of arms, six strings to Irish harp, with an escutcheon of the Arms of Hanover with eight hearts, emblems surrounding, ANNO 1821 below flanking rose and fern leaves, edge milled (S.3810; Bull.2397; ESC.1248). Subtle dark blue mottled tone overlying lustrous proof fields, precise details both sides, specially prepared dies employed on these highly appealing special issues. Some faint hairlines, otherwise much as struck, extremely rare.
