Description
Charles II (1660-85), Crown, 1677/6, third laureate and draped bust right, reads CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA. Rev, crowned cruciform shields interlinked Cs in angles, garter star at centre, eight strings to Irish harp, date flanking top crown, MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX, edge inscribed in raised letters and dated VICESIMO NONO (S.3358; Bull.399; ESC.53). Tiny edge chip at 12 o’clock, some reverse adjustment marks by the 7 of date, otherwise good very fine with a soft strike, underlying mint bloom around the periphery. Much eye appeal, rare.
Purchased by private treaty from Fred Willis in 1974.
