Description
George III (1760-1820) Gilt Silver Proof Bank of England Dollar, 1804. Soho mint, Birmingham, 1804. Laureate and draped bust right. Rev. Britannia seated left, holding branch and spear, resting on shield bearing the Union flag, 27.4g (Bull 1947; ‘R5’ ESC 160A; L&S -. ). About as struck with some contact marks. An impressive example.

St. James Auctions quoted back in 2011, “Another coin of this type was seen in the trade a few years ago, but rather than being fully gilt it only had traces of gilding. No other silver-gilt specimens are known.”
