Description
Third bust right, toothed border both sides, legend surrounding, CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA. Rev, crowned cruciform shields, interlinked pairs of Cs in angles, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, eight strings to Irish harp, reads MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX, edge inscribed in raised letters, DECVS ET TVTAMEN ANNO REGNI VICESIMO SEXTO, 29.74gm (S. 3358; Bull 394 [R6]; ESC 49). Nearly As Struck but removed from ring mount with corresponding edge damage, subtle turquoise/pink tone to obv. legend and rev. Of the highest rarity, Bull estimates only two or three known examples and it is believed that none have appeared on the open market in the last 20 years.
