Description
Kings of Mercia, Coenwulf (796-821), Penny, Canterbury, Æthelmoth, (Struck circa 796-805). M in central circle, COENVVLF REX around, rev. In angles of double line tribrach moline- EDELMOD (second D incorporated into tribrach), 1.30gm. (cf. Naismith C11; N 342; S 914). Good Very Fine, lightly toned and well struck. Very rare and struck from an unpublished pair of dies - belonging to Naismith's type 11 it displays elements of all three of his sub-varieties, including extra pellets at the ends of the tribrach and the obv. legend beginning at 12, rather than the usual 6 o'clock.
