Ottoman Empire, Egypt – French Occupation, Selim III (AH 1203 - 1222 / 1789 – 1807 AD), silver Piastre / 40 Para, AH 1203 (frozen year), regnal year 13 – 1801 AD, Misr, 12.74g (KM 149; Artuk 1918). Very Fine for the issue, weak strike characteristic of this type. Extremely rare to come to the market with only a handful of pieces appearing in the last twenty years. This coin was struck during Napoleon’s brief occupation of Egypt. This type comes with a variety of ornamental devices on obverse. The exact die match for this type is a Piastra from Künker, Auction 210, June 2012, lot 1526.
