DEO SANCTO SERAPIDI, draped bust of Serapis facing right. Rev: DEO SANCTO NILO / Γ / ALE, The River Nile reclining left, leaning on rocks and holding reed and Cornucopiae. (Alfoldi 35; Vagi 3384). About Extremely Fine. Very Rare. These very rare and enigmatic issues are believed to have been struck during the middle of the 4th Century AD. They celebrate ‘The Sacred Serapis, and The Sacred Nile’ and were probably issued to celebrate the Festival of Isis, which heralded the annual arrival of the ‘Ship of Isis’ at Alexandria.
