Description
Romano‑British (c. AD 75‑175) ‘Dragonesque’ brooch, copper‑alloy and enamel (50x21mm, 8.35g). A somewhat elaborate, zoomorphic, curvilinear ‘S’ shaped brooch with ‘dragon head’ terminals, the main plate bears niches for red‑and‑yellow enamel, with some remaining. Back is plain. (See Hattatt, p. 351 for similar examples). An attractive example exhibiting a pleasing green patina. Pin missing and damage to the enamelling. Some marks.
