Footnote
In 1645, the Gdańsk (Danzig) city council decided to change the appearance of Ducats. Instead of the coat of arms shield supported by two lions on the obverse, a city panorama motif was introduced. Featuring important buildings such as the Town Hall, church towers, including St. Mary’s and St. John’s and the city gates and fortifications. This iconography symbolized the divine power that surrounds and protects the city.
