Footnote
Sir Thomas Fairfax, 3rd Baron (1612-71), was Lord General of Parliament's armies from 1645 to 1650 and these medals were bestowed by Parliament and the City of London following the appointment of Fairfax as General-in-Chief of the Parliamentary army and probably awarded to all who had fought with him at the battle of Marston Moor and then generally to officers after this date.
