Description

A diverse and exciting auction featuring stamps and covers from around the world, including scarce errors and varieties and postal history. Key highlights include: Lot 1045 – Southern Rhodesia SG 7a Imperforate Between Error A 1924-29 6d black & mauve top right marginal unmounted horizontal pair, showcasing the rare ERROR IMPERFORATE BETWEEN. · One of only six known pairs, with one housed in the Royal Collection · The unique positional example · A magnificent exhibition piece and a true gem of Southern Rhodesian philately Lot 614 – Iraq British Occupation of Baghdad SG 5 ‘Active Service’ Cover to India A rare and significant 1917 (5 Sep) ‘On Active Service’ green stationery envelope, bearing 1a on 20pa red (Castle), tied by an 'FPO 13' cancellation, and addressed to Simla Hills, India, with a faint ‘PASSED CENSOR D’ handstamp, signed by A. E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition. This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.
